A little about Botox
Botox is a prescription drug that contains a purified neurotoxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. The injection was first used as a treatment for strabismus (crossed eyes), temporarily paralyzing the eye muscle that pulls the eye out of alignment. Ophthalmologists also used Botox to treat blepharospasm, uncontrolled movement of the eyelid.
It was with these eye-related treatments that researchers discovered Botox also reduces the appearance of frown lines — the vertical lines between the eyebrows. In 2002, the FDA approved the use of Botox for reducing the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines.
