Is Microneedling Worth It?
Getting pierced by tiny needles may not sound like an ideal way to improve the look of your skin, leaving you wondering: Is microneedling worth it? We think so.
At Montclair Rejuvenation Center in Verona and West Caldwell, New Jersey, our team of aesthetic experts led by Dr. Kelly Distefano uses microneedling to restore the skin’s natural strength and resilience, smoothing out lines and wrinkles, brightening complexion, and improving the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and stretchmarks.
Microneedling is painless and results are natural and long-lasting. Are you still wondering if it’s worth it? In this month’s blog, we want to tell you why microneedling is worth it.
How microneedling works
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive aesthetic treatment that stimulates your skin’s natural healing process to rejuvenate your look.
The microneedling tool has tiny needles that make microscopic puncture wounds on the surface of your skin. These “wounds” trigger your skin’s repair process without causing any real damage. Part of this repair process includes an increase in collagen production.
Collagen is the structural protein that keeps your youthful skin tight and smooth. Production of collagen declines as you get older, making your skin thin and less resilient, leading to lines and wrinkles.
We use the Vivace™ device for microneedling, taking the skin revitalization process one step further with radiofrequency energy. As the needles penetrate the top layer of your skin they send out radiofrequency energy to the deeper layer. With Vivace, we remodel your skin from the inside out, restoring its youthful resilience.
What to expect during treatment
Tiny needles piercing your skin may not sound like a good time, but microneedling is painless and recovery is short. After cleaning your skin we apply a numbing lotion so you don’t feel anything during your treatment.
Then, we take our microneedling tool and carefully and expertly place the tiny puncture wounds in the areas undergoing treatment. Most people get microneedling on their face, but we can treat almost any area of the body, including the stomach, upper arms, and thighs.
After we finish your treatment, we apply a cooling gel to your skin and send you on your way. You can expect some redness and swelling following microneedling, but you can apply makeup and resume most of your usual activities within a day. We do, however, request that you stay out of the sun while your skin heals.
Microneedling results
Microneedling works from the inside out. Though you may notice improvements in your skin within a few days after your first session, it can take up to six months to see the full effects. We recommend a series of treatments every three to eight weeks to get the best possible results.
We use microneedling to treat:
- Fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck
- Large pores
- Acne scars
- Stretch marks
- Surgical scars
- Uneven skin tone
To enhance the healing process, we may combine microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a blood product that contains a high concentration of your own platelets. Platelets contain specialized proteins that support your skin’s repairing and regeneration process.
If you’re looking for a natural skin rejuvenation treatment, then microneedling is totally worth it. Our aesthetic experts do a thorough evaluation before making any treatment recommendations and can design a plan that helps you get the look you want.
