Got Scars? We Can Help
Scars are part of your skin’s healing process. Though most scars fade over time, they can affect the look of your skin.
At Montclair Rejuvenation Center, our medical aesthetic expert Dr. Kelly Destefano and the team of aestheticians offer many effective skin and scar resurfacing options to lessen the appearance of your scars. If you have scars, we can help.
About those scars
When you cut or damage your skin, your body repairs and closes the wound by growing new tissue. Minor cuts that only affect the top layer of your skin heal evenly, barely leaving a mark. Deeper cuts require thicker tissue to repair the damage, resulting in a scar.
Scars come in all shapes, sizes, and colors and some may even be painful. Scars may be flat, raised, or depressed. Scars may even spread beyond the area of your initial wound, causing what’s known as a keloid scar.
Stretch marks are also a type of scar that occurs from rapid skin growth.
No matter what type of scar you have, we can help.
Treating your scars
Because scars come in many shapes, sizes, and colors, no single treatment works for all types of scars. That’s why we offer many treatment options to reduce the appearance of your scars, including:
Venus Versa
Venus Versa™ is a versatile aesthetic tool we use to perform many beauty treatments. For scar treatment, we use the Venus Versa’s NanoFractional Radio Frequency technology. With this technology, we use tiny pins that deliver heat energy to the damaged areas of your skin.
The pins create microtears in the surface of your skin. Both the heat and the microtears trigger your skin’s natural healing process. The scar treatment repairs your damaged skin — the scar — improving tone and texture.
Microneedling
Microneedling is an aesthetic treatment that triggers collagen production to improve the look, health, and tone of your skin. For scars, the microneedling tool breaks up the scar tissue, triggers your skin’s natural healing process, and lessens the appearance of the scar.
According to a February 2020 prospective study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, microneedling is effective at reducing the appearance of all types of scars — acne, surgical, and trauma-related scars — for all skin types.
Microdermabrasion
For light scarring, we use microdermabrasion, which gently exfoliates the surface layer of your skin, encouraging the growth of new, healthy skin.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and exosome treatment
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and exosomes are types of regenerative medicine that support your body’s natural healing powers. We use PRP and exosomes for facial rejuvenation and may combine these treatments with your microneedling to improve the outcomes of your scar treatment.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) laser treatment
CO2 laser treatment removes the surface layer of your skin to remove imperfections like scar tissue. The heat energy produced by the laser also triggers collagen production, improving your skin’s natural strength and flexibility.
We use our CO2 laser tool to treat all types of scars, including raised, depressed, and keloid scars.
PepFactor
PepFactor is a high-quality skin and scalp system that contains a specially formulated protein. This specialized formula stimulates the production of fibroblasts, which are the cells in your skin that produce collagen and elastin.
The rejuvenating power of PepFactor improves the look of your skin, lessening the appearance of scars.
What treatment is best for you
Scars are complex and no single treatment works for all. When you visit our medical spa with concerns about scars, we spend a lot of time talking to you about your concerns and goals and examining your skin and scar.
The best treatment for your scar depends on the type, size, and location of your scar. We discuss your scar treatment options and create a plan that helps you achieve your beauty goals.
Scars not only affect your appearance, but also your self-confidence and self-esteem. But with advances in aesthetic tools and technology, you don’t have to live the rest of your life with your skin imperfections.
