Can I Get Botox and Fillers in the Same Session?
Botox® and dermal fillers are the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatments in the United States. Why? The injections are quick, effective, and require little to no downtime.
Though they both erase wrinkles, Botox and fillers have different uses. If both injections are necessary to achieve your desired look, you may wonder if you can get Botox and fillers in the same session.
The answer to this question depends on you and your cosmetic injector. However, you can get both at the same time.
At Montclair Rejuvenation Center in Verona and West Caldwell, New Jersey, our skilled team of aesthetic experts, led by Dr. Kelly Distefano, customizes treatment plans after an initial consultation. If we think Botox and fillers can enhance your natural beauty and meet your goals, we can do both injections in the same session.
About Botox and fillers
Botox and fillers are cosmetic injections that rejuvenate your appearance by smoothing out lines and wrinkles, but they work differently.
Botox
Botox is a neuromodulator. It works by temporarily stopping nerve signals to the brain. For wrinkles, Botox stops the movement of the facial muscles that create the etched-in lines around the eyes and on the forehead.
Fillers
Fillers are gel-like injections that add volume under the skin. We use fillers to fill in lines and creases, restoring a more youthful look. Fillers also enhance features, like adding fullness to sunken cheeks and plumping up thin lips.
Botox vs. fillers: What they treat
Did you know not all wrinkles are the same? Facial wrinkles are either dynamic, static, or folds.
Dynamic wrinkles
Dynamic wrinkles are the facial lines that develop from facial expressions. When you smile, frown, or raise your eyebrows, your facial muscles contract, causing the skin to bunch up.
Like the creases in your bed sheets, the constant bunching and folding of the skin creates etched-in lines. Due to age-related changes in your skin, these lines become more permanent over time.
Crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles are the dynamic wrinkles we treat with Botox.
Static wrinkles
Static wrinkles are the lines and creases caused by changes in skin structure. As you age, the collagen that keeps your skin strong and elastic decreases, making your skin thin and fragile. We use fillers to treat these types of wrinkles.
Wrinkle folds
Wrinkle folds, also called nasolabial folds, are deep lines that form between the nose and mouth. These wrinkles develop from changes in the fat layer under the skin. The fat layer thins out and falls from gravity, causing the skin to loosen and sag.
We use fillers to diminish the appearance of wrinkle folds.
Getting both in the same session
If it helps you achieve your beauty goals, getting Botox and fillers in the same session is possible. Botox injections are quick and relatively painless. Fillers take a little longer, and we may apply a numbing agent to minimize discomfort.
Your appointment may take about an hour, and you may notice some redness at the injection site. To reduce bruising, we recommend you skip any strenuous activity for a day or two after getting Botox and fillers.
Fillers should improve your look immediately, but Botox results can take up to 30 days. Cosmetic injection results are temporary, but you can repeat treatments as needed to maintain your youthful look.
